i just bought a bike and did the carbs for the first time in my life.
i will give you my experience.........
-first you will need the carb rebuild kits for each carb 4x
-some wire brushes.... i got these from home depot but i only used the bottom brush. the plastic bristles dont work and the brass bristles are to soft. the crappy thing is they come in 3 packs and they are the only small brushes i can find that arnt to stiff
*you always want to buy brushes that are softer than the metal of the carbs so you dont scratch them.
-also an old tooth brush.
-also you will need little storage containers. i went to the dollar store and bought a bunch of metal muffin trays.
-then go to autozone or whatever and buy the "shop size" cans of carb cleaners i used 3x cans
also my carbs where gross with gas syrup so i used a metal can and poured a whole can of sea foam and enough gas to soak my carbs and rack in.
download the shop manual for the bike. its in the forums and print out the carb section.
get your digital camera.
---------------------------------------------------------
throughout the dis-assembly take pics pics pics for anything you think u need to remember. (after your first 2 carbs you will remember everything. they look intimidating at first but they are actually really simple)
first you need to take apart each carb off the rack. (look at the manual you printed out) use your cup cake trays for each section/step u take apart.
now with all the carbs takin off start taking them apart in sections. use the cup cake trays for each step.
i removed the old gaskets right away.
then i looked at the carb kit and took off all the pieces that will be replaced and set all those aside so i dont take the time cleaning by accident and waste my time.
i did the whole sha bang in 3 steps, rack, 2x carbs left, 2x carbs right.
after disassembling 2x carbs left i soaked them in gas and in a separate can 2x carbs right.
i let them soak everything over night and then took my brush and went to town especially the float bowls. the top section of the carb i used a tooth brush. i didnt want to scratch the upper cylinder with the brush.
now after everything is clean this is the time to shoot the carb cleaner everywhere. this takes off all the residue. make sure to go through with the red stick nozzle through all the ports and inlet and outlets.
also the stick that is connected to the float bowl use a small paper clip and make sure that is clean.
replace everything in the carb with your new parts from the rebuild kit. (air fuel screw is 1 1/2 turn is a good starting point from what i understand) (also make sure you place the clip on the needle in the right position, or where it originally is)
reassemble the carbs
clean the rack
put all the carbs on the rack and you done!
well kind of
put everything back on the motor and tune the carbs.....
you will need a carb synchronizer
