knocking nois on Idle??
« on: June 21, 2011, 04:16:37 PM »
Hi I'm New to the forum, I recently purchased a 1977 CB750A. I rebuilt the carbs changed the oil, got it running (still need to sync the carbs). I'm Getting a loud knocking noise which seems to be coming from the trans.  I cant seem to get the bike into gear either. Any thoughts would be appreciated. This bike sat for about 20 years. It's gonna be a project.

Thanks,

Jim

Two things.... first, A's with milage over , say 25,000 will have primary chain rattle which can be quietened a lot by a good carb sync and second, the A has an unique feature that stops you putting it in gear when the sidestand is down. With the bike on the mainstand pull the sidestand down while observing the adjustable linkage that turns a cam that stops it going in gear.... probably just needs to be adjusted.... enjoy your A, especially in stop/go traffic everyone wishes they had one  ;)
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

Thank's Spanner, It only has 9,400 miles but has been stored in a shed for about 20 years. Mice in the airbox and all. Its got a King and Queen seat along with the Windjammer fairing. I've managed to search out a new seat it has a bent grab bar and a headlamp bucket. I'll be searching for the rest in time. The kickstand? Who new!
Thanks all for the feedback. I'll keep you all posted on my progress.

"The kickstand? Who new!"...  I didn't know on my first 'matic....   this guy bought it..... and needed to sell it cause he lost interest.... it was a runner... but he couldn't get it into gear....  I didn't know how it worked either.. but it knocked $100.00 off the price cause of it.... LOL
