CB750A to CB750K parts swap?
« on: June 08, 2011, 02:06:52 PM »

Okay, all you Automatic gurus... Are there any motor parts from the Automatic that can be swapped to the K-models that will be advantageous?  Oil pump?  Charging system? Anything?  Thanks!  RR

I was put on Earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Now I'm so far behind, I'll never die!

Off the top of my head:

Differences
Crank
Pistons (lower compression ratio)
Cam
Oil Pump

Common parts
Cylinder
Head (same as 76 750F, I recall) along with valves, springs, etc.
Rods
Cam chain

This excludes the obvious tranmission differences.

Thanks for the response, Kandrtech, but that's really not what I'm looking for. Because some parts of the Automatic may be more robust than on the plain vanilla "K" models, I'd like to find out if any of the Automatic components would be a direct upgrade for a "K."  I have a parts bike '77 Automatic and need to decide whether to sell it as is, or part it out after pulling specific usable components.

BTW, additional differences are the crank, hy-vo chain, carbs, tach drive plug, etc.

Anybody else got any info? Higher output oil pump? Better charging system?

Thanks again. RR

oil pump is completely different.   The I believe the 750A stator puts out more watts.
750A rims are aluminum I believe.

There are not many parts on a CB750A that would be good upgrade parts for a CB750K.  For performance, I'm grafting CB750F parts, and CB650SC/CB900 parts onto my bike.

As already stated, the stator does provide more power - to account for the larger battery.  Some have posted on this site about putting this higher capacity stator onto their bike to power extra or other electrical loads.

The primary chain doesn't swap into a K.  Engine wise, I can't think of much else that I'd want to swap into a K, since the A was de-tuned.

Wheels - as already stated are different - aluminum rims, like the gold wing of the same vintage.

Overall, I'd say the list is pretty short - for what you're looking for.
