Who makes a complete bolt on rearset kit with linkage and everything for a 1971 cb500? Not Benjis either because I dont want to pay$500+

rene, dont know if you are using these but the quality in the raask rear sets i've seen was appalling, really agricultural IMHO, wouldnt touch with a ten foot pole.... my 0.02$

On my CB750F2 caferacer I have a Raask set for 5 years now, good quality and no problems with it.
But this is an old set from the seventies , perhaps better quality then the new ones.

I emailed the guy from blast from the past and he said to make sure my frame is the same as a 1975. Does anyone know if a 71 is the same as 75-76?

The '71 CB500 frame was basically the same as the '74-'76 CB550K frame. The 550F frame was different as was the '77-'78 550.

I bought Tarozzi rearsets from Fast from the Past and have been thrilled with the quality. Very well made and look great. Highly recommend. I believe they are the same price as the Raask. I read several bad reviews about the Raask rearsets, so I didn't even consider them. I can show you a pic of the Tarozzi's if you want.

Keep in mind that you won't be able to use your kicker with these on (or probably any rearset for that matter). I carry around a wrench so that I can pull it off if I get a low battery....and glad I did because it happened on the rally trip last month and I needed the kicker.

I think i read that you can put a kick lever from a 550F on it and it will clear, but I'm not too concerned about it. A wrench under the seat works for me.

Highly recommend these Tarozzi's....love them. You can also pick which pegs you get (rubber cover/folding like mine, or machined folding/non folding) and the finish of the bracket (black like mine or machined). Fast from the past was also very prompt in fulfilling my order.

Thank you very much for the pics and info. Looks like I will go with those. The guy I emailed said that the folding ones would let me use the kick start if I had to. But like you said it doesn't look like it would work.

Not a problem.

The interference with the kicker is not with the folding peg, it's with the toe/lever portion. The only way to get it out of the way is to take the bolt off the back and let it hang free. Not a biggie though.

Be sure to post a pic when you get them on the bike!

I have searched all over the net to find the answer to this very question and have not found an easy answer yet. Nobody advertises a set of bolt on rearsets for the 71-73 CB500, and nobody will confirm a bolt on set exists. I can find them all day long for the 75-76, but not the 71-73 and nobody has posted a picture of bolt-ons on thier 71-73 CB500. I see answers like, "If the frame is the same as XXXX," but unfortunately I dont have multiple frames to compare to. And my 75 550 was different from my 73 500.

With that being said, Has anyone seen pictures of a 71-73 CB500 with bolt on rearsets? Or does anyone know for a fact that part#xxxx will fit? I'd hate to drop like $300 to find out they don't fit and have to ship them back to Italy.

It's not quite what you're looking for, but if you want an assurance that something will fit, look good, and not break the bank, what about getting used OEM rearsets from a semi-modern sportbike and having adapter plates made? You could get the rearsets from something like a CBR600F2 for under $100 from ebay or a local wrecker, and if you cut templates from cardstock you could probably have your adapter plates made for another $100 by a local machinist.

Something to consider if you're not able to find a bolt-on solution that satisfies you.

The pics I posted above are rearsets for the 71-73 CB500 from fastfromthepast.com. The CB500 and the 74-76 CB550K bikes have the same frame....so they fit all those years of bikes. My guess is that your 75 CB550 was a CB550F, not a K bike? F and K frames are different. My 74 CB550K frame is identical to my friend's 71 CB500 frame (with the exception of a small bracket for the clutch cable I believe).

They shipped from Georgia as I recall....not Italy. Send an e-mail to the guy at fastfromthepast and tell him what you are looking for and he will confirm. I think the listings on the website are probably based on what the rearset manufacturers say. non-US models are not always the same and I think there was a euro CB500 four-cylinder that was manufactured throughout the 70s, not just until 73 like here in the US.

I still haven't ordered these yet due to my wife likes riding on the bike also. Im trying to figure out how to make the passenger pegs work with these. I dont think it would be hard to mount the rear pegs back on after the rear set mounting plate is bolted on. She rides with her toes on the pegs also so I don't think clearance will be an issue. Anybody seen passenger pegs with rearsets?

I am just moving the passenger pegs a little higher up the frame, they are quite low on these bikes. I am not reusing the original mount...

When my feet are on the rearsets, my heal is about where the rear peg mount would be.....so it would probably be pretty tight putting a rear peg there. Maybe if your feet are smaller it would work?

Have you looked into sourcing front pegs from an early (75-76) 400f? They are set further back than the stock 500/550 and lower than aftermarket rearsets. They have a short linkage for the shifter, but you'd have to either mod/bend the 400 brake pedal or shorten the 500/550 pedal to work as it's too long. I originally set out to find a set of these and use them, but gave up looking on ebay and such and just forked out the cash for the rearsets. Something to consider....especially if you want to keep your passenger pegs. I actually would probably prefer the riding position that these offer over new rearsets. Do a search and you will find a couple threads on guys putting these on their 500/550.

the rear sets allow you to keep the passenger pegs, for the passengers foot angles under the drivers heal due to the new downward angle of the drivers foot placement.
when not carrying passenger the rear peg can be folded up out of the way completely by installing in this manner shown.

I kind of read through this, on the rearsets and the kicker subject. I didn't notice anybody saying so, but I am thinking that someone, in the past, mentioned using a kicker from a 550F (or maybe 750F? if THAT would work) with SOME rearsets. Just thought I'd throw that in there. It may have just been, that this would work when using setups from other bikes, I don't remember right off.
