Push button start - under the seat
« on: June 08, 2011, 06:17:35 PM »
I am considering the idea of getting rid of the key ignition and putting a push-button start button under the seat or perhaps just a switch?....anybody done this?

Or is this a terrible idea....

Not terrible but... you would still need a key to unlock & flip the seat & then a push button for the electric start, also with an "on" toggle switch under there too?  Don't stall it at any lights ;) ;)  Maybe the KISS theory is not so bad. :o :P ;D

well... i did 'something like this.  i put a small push button on the left side behind the carbs using a frame tab that had a hole in it.  it's as small as a dime. very discreet.  cleaned up the handle bars a bunch.  let me see if i have a photo of it.  you can see in the picture a little silver dot just under the pinstripping on the tank behind the carbs.  that's where mine is.  i like it.

I installed the small ignition button from Cycle Exchange under my seat on the left side.  just drilled a small hole (maybe an 1/8 inch?) and dropped it in.  Super clean, but as stated already, kind of a pain if you stall it in traffic... was really easy to wire.  No one would ever know how to start your bike if they didn't know it was there...
