Topic: Advice on Hagon shock installation - CB750K2

I got my custom made 2810 Hagon shocks on Friday and after the VT ride this weekend I rushed home to install them on the CB750K2. They are slightly longer than stock. I removed the upper HM300 exhaust pipe on each side to give me access to the 14 mm bolt and the old ones came off easily.

I installed the right side first and it went on ok. The left side (chain guard side) is proving the problem though. Getting the holes lined up is near impossible. I could get the bolt in one side but not through to the other. Was on my own and since I have no centerstand was using pulleys to lift the back end, tried leaning it over on sidestand etc etc...all to no avail eventually giving up to have a think about it.

Question is....what do others do? Install the chain guard side first? Does this make it easier then to install the right side?

Any advice? Ive installed shocks before but these are proving tough!

I'm trying to figure out what could be causing the problem.  In theory, if the shocks are the exact same length and the swing arm is straight, the second bolt should slide in easier than the first because it should already be lined up perfectly. 

Is the chain guard interfering with the installation?  I know many non-stock shocks cause problems with the chain guard because the spring sits much lower on them than on the stock shocks, so the narrow section at the bottom is much shorter. 

Does the bolt easily thread into the bottom of the shock when it isn't on the bike?  If not, maybe it's the threads of the bolt hole that's the problem.

Yes I know what you mean about it "should" line up and it almost does but not quite. The chain guard may be pushing against the side of the shock so I think Ill go back and install that side first. I checked the bolt hole and its fine - with shock off the bike it goes through easily.

Ill switch sides and/or remove the chain guard and see if this helps.

helped having someone lift the rear end up a bit to get the weight off the kickstand side of the shocks.  It definitely may be easier to do the kickstand side first as the weight will be off the second shock.  the pulley idea would probably work but the little bit of fidgeting thats required might be harder than having someone else lift the rear end up a bit...

Thanks guys for the replies. I got it by doing the bottom loosely first then fitting the top. Just back from a test ride and big improvement over what I had -check out Hagon 2810 Shocks thread in SOHC section.
