Tell me, exactly what is the price difference between ordering red caps from the UK and black caps from the US?

I wouldn't consider a difference of $9.60 for four plug caps huge, especially for a specific color that you want and for a part that will last a few decades.  And standard shipping from the UK to the US for small parts isn't much more (if any more) than shipping within the states.

u know that is a good point. considering if they last a couple decades.... i didnt know they lasted that long. i decided to go with black caps and red wires.

is there anything big on the wires that go to the coil?

im thinking about either gutting my coils or buying those ngk connector fittings. last owner decided to cut the wires and put them back together with electrical tape  ::)

come to think about it would it be better to just thread the wires together drop some solder onto it and shrink wrap the connection?

If it were me I'd go with the NGK splicers if only for the ease of connection and ability to disconnect if and when needed.

well if they last for decades  ::) but ya do you think the solder would be a better connection or would the splicer be the same. i never used one so i dont know who they connect on the inside.

anything to look for in the wire?

if you have the stock coils the wires dont come out,and are solid wire,if you have aftermarket go faster coils you can also use go faster leads(wires)of your choice of colour.

sarcasm, coils do make you go faster if you dont have coils to begin with,if you want to toy with coils and use points, stay with 5 ohm ones.

the plug caps screw on to the wire, they have a thread in the wire end, sometimes in the wire end its a bit hashed up,you can trim a little of at a time untill you find fresh wire for the caps to screw back into, this works well compared to buying used coils that have been hacked about or figuring out new coils that dont quite fit etc.,the honda coils last forever mostly, last count was about two million bikes from the 70s still on the factory coils.

2 mill was a lame guess, more like ten mill if you count all the other honda models with fixed high tension wires, its not a poor design at all,no corrosion at the lead to coil insertion point, back in the day it was utter reliability that sold these bikes to a new consumer audience, the last thing they (honda) wanted was a simple ignition failure,i still drive a car with an actuall distributor and i remove the leads once a year from the cap and clean the green build up before it becomes a problem, for the average honda buyer in the era this would be a real pain, like tank off etc,for what its worth ive had high quality spiral wound wire on this car for about ten years, ive had the car for 26 years.

the sl has a different ignition system,it will run without a battery, not the same type of coil.

i know the red ones go faster  >:( thats why i want them!!!

ya i guess ill get a hold of this guy and see what i can do.

from what i understand you can actually hack open the coils and replace the wires from the source then re sealing them.

there are a couple of tutorials about it on the forums.

i just cant for over $$$$ for aftermarket coils.... although it is nice with the fast switch wires and caps....  :(

so regarding the wires..... can i just use any copper core wires? iv also seen wires with build in restricters or something?
