A few quick questions...
« on: June 21, 2011, 05:22:15 AM »
Im picking up a 78 cb750k next week. Runs like a top, 18k on the clock (been well maintained and has perfect compression in all 4 cyl) and the PO is stripping it down and detailing the bike before I get it as its been sitting for a good while. Theres some dings in the tank so he is also stripping the tins down, smoothing them out and laying a good coat of primer down before I pick it up. Carbs rebuilt, and so on...

Got a call lastnight from a buddy who has an original Yoshimura 4-1 hanging in the garage that he is kindly donating to the old girl.

So... Onto the questions.

1. Im lowering the bike a bit to make it fit me a bit more, and improve handling. Im looking into a few different rear shocks, but would like to know what you good people recommend.

2. Im looking into some smaller taillight units, but would also like to know what you recommend.

3. I know the Honda twins really well, but this is my first 750. Anything in particular I should look for?

Thats about it. Thanks for your time.

-Mike

Having the seat reshaped is a good way of lowering a couple of inches. Putting smaller rear shocks on to lower it won't improve handling, you lose ground clearance and things like the footpegs and centre stand scrape on the road easier.

If You can't fix it with a hammer, You've got an electrical problem.

I'd be a little cautious of his primer job. How are you planning to repaint it? If you are going to use automotive paint, theres certain compatabilities, etc.

Emgo makes a lucas style tail light that works nicely on the fender.

The paint isnt an issue... Thats one thing Im actually pretty good with and have a decent knowledge of.

My chopper tank...

As far as lowering it, I will have a lower seat made, and eventually it will be getting rearsets (I have 08 GSXR units waiting on a custom mounting plate.) but I still want to bring the bike down a bit. I have a good friend who runs a suspension shop who is helping me sort out the forks, but Im interested to hear opinions on a good shock that someone has actually used.

And the center stand will probobly be removed at some point.

I have seen the Lucas setups, and in fact a friend has one on his 400f. Very clean and still vintage looking. Kinda looking for some off the wall ideas.

Thanks for your quick responses!
