Removing the oil tank

I'm starting a brat style build with my 78 cb750 and I want to leave out the oil tank. I have seen this done and like the look.....However I'm not sure how to do this or what problems could arise from it??

Is it just as simple as plugging the oil line holes??

If someone has done this and could explain, it would help me out

There have been a few who have replaced the oil pan, with an oil pan from an auto on a K or F engine. You will need an oil pump from an auto also for the deeper sump. The ones that I have seen still used the oil line out and oil line in for either an external filter or oil cooler. If you didn't do that you would have to loop the oil line out and line in to each other.

Your still going to need an oil tank somewhere as your bike is a dry sump design, oil volume is not carried in the engine.  Some have hidden it just above the swingarm or in the seat hump.  take a look in the inspiration thread as there are quite a few examples of some creative engineering.

The best way to get the look of the bike in the link is to switch to a different engine that doesn't rely on an oil tank like a DOHC engine

Buy a DOHC like the one pictured ;), or do what splitt said with the deeper sump.

Others have built custom oil tanks that fit lower over the transmission or swing arm and aren't as visible.  Take a look around in the projects section, I'm sure you'll see some there.

 The auto pan will not fit an F or K case set.
 basically you have to relocate tank, or perhaps make a much larger sump, but no guarantee that will work.

Wrong bike for that look. Thats why i got rid of my 78 750 and kept working on the my 550. That oil tank is ugly and its a lot of work to fabricate a tank to relocate the oil. Sorry to be a downer but if your really dedicated to that look for your 750 be willing to shell out cash for a custom tank unless you have some fabricating skills.
My favorite location spot would be between the rear down rails and use the tank as a mud guard.

I refrained from saying " Yes, just plug the holes and your good to go. I used a cork."  :D
