Voltage Regulator Reliabiliy
« on: April 25, 2006, 02:15:26 PM »
Hey Guys...
Planning on doing some longer trips on the 77 750K...and I always worry about possible failures on the road...with my older cars I just carry a few spares in the trunk...not really an option with the bike.
The Electricals work great right now...but I'm old enough to have had Voltage Regulator failures with generators and alternators...always happens at mid-night in a downpour...makes sense...heavy electrical load I guess. So....a bit leery of OLD electromechanical devices...made it home one night with a folded dollar bill holding the contacts together one...over charged the battery a bit!<G> Sorry...rambling on here...
How reliable are the V.Rs. on these bikes??? Should I worry and buy a electronic replacement???
Hope I'm never on the road at Mid-night in the rain on the bike...but Sh*t happens sometime!!!

I've found the regulators are pretty good... provided the wiring that's connected to them is in good shape....
