Shift lever rubber
« on: June 12, 2011, 02:22:56 pm »
This is going to sound stupid, but here goes...

I need to remove, without damaging, the shift lever rubber. I have tried a couple of techniques, mostly swearing at it, all to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions? The key here is to salvage it. I could just cut it off but I want to reuse it on another project.

try warming it up in some hot water to soften the rubber.
And i think new ones are still available from Honda.

Thanks. I'll head over to the Honda shop on Tuesday when they open and order a new one.  ;D

Since the lever comes off easily (if still mounted) soak the rubber end in boiling hot water for a few minutes. It will slip right off. Same for installing a new one, makes it dead easy.
