the clip on my 1975 cb550 is one up
i think this is what your talking about.
the carb housing itself dosent have any notches its just smooth. ( i shiat you not im doing all this by memory because i just rebuilt my carbs like a month ago) (or maybe there was a notch in the carb housing and you had to line that piston part in it...)
now the piston thing has a notch running down the side. after putting the needle in you slide the inner part of the piston down and when its at the bottom you have to twist and line up the holes for your bolts. there are 2 ways to twist it and when you reassemble your carb u will notice if you did it wrong.
so the bolts in the carb piston should be fine. are you sure your bolts are tightened?
now maybe you are talking about the inside part of the piston............
ok disregard all of that ^ but im going to leave it because it took a lot of brain power to type out. and im also leaving my architectural schematics because they took me a while to draw too
anyways im awesome while scampering around the interweb when i was trying to draw the inner part of the piston slide because i couldnt remember if there was a spring or just a metal piece inbetween the 2 ball sections for the piece i found this!!!! whahahahahaha
***inner slide photo or photo 3 is not finish
