cb550 valve noise, not lash
« on: June 13, 2011, 02:32:44 PM »
hey guys

i have a 74 cb550 and its got a ticking noise coming from what sounds like (used a screwdriver as a stethoscope) around the #4 cylinder intake rocker arm or somewhere in that area. checked and set the lash 3 times , have tried swapping out rocker arm shafts to see if shaft is wore out and that didnt help.

checkd for exhaust leaks to see if that was the tick and its not.

the noise gets a little louder and speeds up with rpms just a constant TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK, sounds like the rocker arm is hitting the valve cover or something like that but its not anywere that i can see, i took the tappet cover off and couldnt narrrow it down anymore.

anyone ran into this problem before?

did you get a good look at the cam when you replaced the shafts? i just had to replace mine. was tapping out of same area. #3 intake lobe was trashed.

Sounds like classic cam cover shaft hole wear..
