Can I file brake shoes for '76 550k
« on: June 14, 2011, 09:57:13 AM »
A while back I ordered some Vesrah brake pads for a rebuild of the rear wheel. I never tried them on the actual brake at that time, and now realize that the ends that are supposed to seat with the cam are a little too wide to fit down into the slots.

Can I file a hair off of these ends to make it sit right?  I just double checked to make sure the part number is correct for my year and model, and it seems I have the correct ones. They are just a little too wide.

Thanks,

Scott

Too wide or too thick?

Not sure I understand what you mean???

If I try to slip the ends into the slot (one on each side of the cam) the shoes stick out too far to fit nicely into it.

If there is another way for it to go wrong, I haven't noticed it yet.

Thanks

i had the same problem so just filed them down to fit,,mine also obscured the split pin hole,,when all was done the action was fine but the linings felt like they had the friction co efficient of ice,,you could not lock the rear wheel if you stood on the brake,i bought genuine ones and they fitted straight up and actually work,i emailed david silvers and they said they would exchange the old shoes but because i had modified them they couldnt re sell them, these were a 'DBS" brand rubbish.

Thanks Dave. Not sure if Vesrah is considered bad or not.  I'll do a search.  I honestly don't recall where I got them from.  I could look back thru receipts, but that could take a lifetime at this point :)

Have you used this brand?  Vesrah seems to make a boatload of replacement parts, but I'm not familiar with their reputation.

Appreciate the response.

Love the signature, by the way :)
