Why? Oh, Why??
« on: June 14, 2011, 07:56:56 PM »
Will someone please explain to me why they do this?? There must be someone out there who understands the mentality....

http://newbrunswick.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-motorcycles-other-1971-HONDA-CB350F-CB350-FOUR-CYLINDER-W0QQAdIdZ290647575

If they had finished the project I might - I say MIGHT - have understood.

Please think twice - no...., think 3 times before you butcher a classic.

I'll get down off of my soapbox now before I hurt myself....  :'(

Why do so many people today seem to feel the need to take a complete original bike and cut it all up for a cafe? It's the current style.

Many years ago it was the stretched chopper.

yeah i feel ya..but i dont understand what everyone means when they say "cut up"..what exactly is being cut on a cafe?the rear section?cant you just weld it back on?or make a new piece?i cut the rear section off a bike before for a cafe but i saved the piece i cut off and gave it to the guy i sold it to..he welded it back on and you couldnt even tell any "cutting"was done..

Hi Pat, usually the rear seat brace is removed, the rear footpeg mounts, the rear frame rails, dents belted into perfectly good tanks, butchered electrics and so on.  Its good you saved the removed rear section, most don't.....

Don't get me wrong, I like cafes too. I had Ace (clubman) bars and an old school leather seat with white piping on my Enfield Bullet. Hell, overall I found the riding position a bit more comfortable than the upright one on my 550.

But I just hate it when someone takes a clean SOHC with the original pipes and paint and chucks it all. There are plenty of beat up old bikes out there to convert. Save the intact ones.

Only "cut up" bikes interest me, I can appreciate stockers to a degree, but the whole chopping/customizing thing is what I am into bikes for (besides the riding).
I will take an unsafe 70's chopper over a stock bike anyday. Different strokes.

OH Hell you made me look.    and a fellow Canadian no less.

Still it wouldn't take that much to turn it into whatever you want.  It is selling for a fraction of what a stock all original bike would sell for.  $400.00
