CB450 Project --> Black or Scotch-Brited Wheels ??
« on: December 11, 2006, 08:58:50 AM »
As the topic states, I am on the fence about what to do with the wheels on the current CB450 project. The two options are either I :

1. Spray the wheels and lower legs black with Low-Gloss enamel (same as I did on my CB750)
2. Go to town on them with some scotch-brite pads and dull them down to get that raw alum. look (like I did on my CB750 before the black)
3. Scotch-Brite the wheels and spray the lower legs black.
4. Spray only the wheels black and scuff the lower legs

I am not sure because when I look at pics of my 750 before and after the painting of the wheels, I am almost more of a fan of the bike when the wheels were silver/scotch-brited. The cb450 Is gonna be very bare bones, Industrial, etc and anything that is silver/metal is gonna get a healthy scotch-brite-ing, so maybe the black wheels will offset all the silver ?

I need your opinions people.... ;D

I'd paint just the fork lowers first and see what you think.  I think the black forks go with the frame better, but the chrome/satin wheels will be a good contrast.  If not, you can always go back and blast the wheels.

That's going to be a neat little bike -- two wheels and a motor...that's all you need.

I agree with tsflstb although Id be inclined to paint the shorty rear shocks on the back to match the lower legs of the fork....more continuity.....flow etc....but I always prefer chrome shocks so would be hard to do :-)

cheers

I am with ya on this 150%.
If the lower legs get painted, the rear shocks (just the "bells") will get
painted to match as well...

Keep the opinions comming... ;)

Are those wheels alum?  They kinda look like stock chromed steel...  If they are alum scotchbright and spray the legs and shock housing black IMHO...
