Topic: Newbie from Hampton Roads, VA

Hey everyone, I just picked up a cb550. Right now it is pretty bare because the previous owner started the project but never finished it. I have a box filled with a bunch of different parts. It probably isn't the ideal bike to buy for someone who has never worked on an older honda but it was titled and fairly cheap. I have plans to make it into a cafe racer. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. I almost don't know where to begin. The previous owner is currently reassembling the engine and hopefully it runs. I am putting a lot of faith in the previous owner and I may pick up a different motor this weekend for 250 just in case. I bought everything besides the motor for 250 and I planned on spending another 250 once the owner gets everything put back together.
I read a thread about someone having a bent frame so now I am a bit paranoid. If someone can take a look at the picture I have and tell me what they think that would be great.

Where in Hamptons Roads? I live in Virginia Beach and have a '77 550  that I did a minor cafe job on. I am no expert but have rebuilt the top end of mine, redid the the front forks, brakes, syched carbs, etc. I can offer some assistance and advice, or a beer or two if I can't. There is another member, Simpson, who is in the local area also, who seems to have a lot of knowledge and experience. Let me know if I can help.

I am in Newport News. Right now I have some big plans to replace a lot of stuff and do a proper rebuild. We will see if that actually happens. The forks are rusting a bit. I need to remove them to see how bad it is. I might have to take you up on your offer. This is my first build and there is still a lot I need to learn.
