Anyone into skateboarding?
« on: April 22, 2011, 08:55:11 AM »
I just thought I'd share this site that a bunch of my friends started. http://gnarkansas.com/ Maybe I'll leave my bike alone long enough to go get some tricks for one of the videos. A few of the guys in the videos have bikes and we'll ride to parks sometimes. It's a lot of fun! Enjoy!

Skateboarding saved my life. I love the stuff. I'm gonna go roll around on the cement when I get off of work today. I'll try and keep my skateboard underneath me.
I'll be sure to check out the site.

That site is very well done. Kudos to you and your pals for putting together a top notch site. It seems to cover all the vital aspects of skateboarding. I look forward to getting into it a bit more.

Nice F model bike. Someday they'll be the next sandcast, ha ha.

That would be nice. ;D I can't wait to see what you do with your F! I want to make some sort of a skateboard holster for the left side of my bike so I don't have to sit on it or put it on my backpack. I want it to be somewhat like a gun holster on a horse. (yeah, I'm from AR)

The "Dump n Grind" is F'n rad, and yes, that's an outhouse built onto it! The guy who owns that ramp is the bass player for this bluegrass band called Cletus Got Shot. He built his bass out of a gas tank from a Saab. http://www.cletusgotshot.com/ They're real cool and tour all over. They even did a European tour! Their website is pretty nice too. I've never been a fan of country music, but these guys showed me that bluegrass is rad!

I spent all my free time skateboarding from 1985 until about 1998 when I blew my knee out and had no insurance(torn acl)  Now I have insurance but still have no acl.  I can still skate around but have to limit myself to low level stuff and can't run as fast as I can skate(land or slam!)  I'll tell ya learning how to fall on skateboards, really helps with the motor cycle crashes...non-skaters are amazed when you get up from a 40 mph low side, bend your handle bars back into shape, and keep riding the rest of the day :o

Yeah, I thanked skateboarding for helping me when I got broadsided by a truck at a 4-way on my Shadow. I saw it coming but couldn't do anything but jump, get hit by the truck, and roll back onto my feet. The girl that hit me said I looked like spider man. It still didn't make me not want to slap her. Things hurt worse and worse the older you get. I'm only 28, but you won't see me doing kickflips down 8 stairs anymore. When I go street skating anymore it's pretty much ledges and 2-4 stair sets. ;D I only grind handrails at skateparks anymore. You know, the ones that are made for it. :o The older you get the better ramps and bowls look! 8)

kids that skate these days are so lucky with all the skateparks in every town. i grew up skateboarding throughout the eighties and we had no parks. we were constantly getting run off from every spot we could find by security guards, property owners, etc... not to mention dodging cars and gang bangers. altogether though it probably kept me out of more trouble than it got me in! i'm glad skateboarding is still being done by some talented people like on the website Radam shared. thanks for the link!

Cue crotchety old man voice: aka Grandpa Simpson.
When I was a kid my skateboard was made out of wood and had metal wheels. ;)

I started skating when I was about 13 in the 80's and that was all I did. I never participated in sports because all I wanted to do was skate. I skated to school everyday and then skated after school and then skated home. My first real deck was a Lance Mountain made by Powell & Peralta with Independent 169's and Rat Bone wheels. I kept up skating up until a few years ago when I decided that concrete hurts when you hit it. I still tool around a bit every once in a while. Man I drive by skateparks everyday. What we would have done for parks back in the day.

Yeah, i skated in Jr high and high school, a little bit in college when the skate parks started to  pop up. Now i work 1/4 mile down the street from a nice park. If it had been there when i was younger we might not have pissed off so many people, waxing curbs, and grinding their benches. lol

I grew up in Chico and Redding CA and the houses I lived in still have coped curbs out front from all the waxing and grinding they saw from me. My parents always got pissed because I would jack their candles. My Dad had a "ramp graveyard" in the back for years from all the launch ramps I made over time.

to me its just apart of me, even if I dont rip all the time or know all the latest tricks, if I can just go roll around and relax maybe freak a little kid out with some old skool #$%* thats good for me...Hey I still ride Indy 169! I have to get them off ebay and drill the board to the old hole pattern. I seen some of my friends that where big back in the day get hurt and just kinda give up totally, like not even roll around the flat and still drink and get high like they are 17 except now with kids and fat. I told Gibson that I'd love to see him just roll around but the guy says if he cant skate like he used to he wont at all which is kinda sad to me kids wont ever see the dude that invented the Tex Plant on a board ever. Stay loose, stay up. thats me lurking pools and parks

Yeah, I still lurk around the parks myself. When I'm taking class it's also a good way to get around campus. I'll even still grind a park handrail now and then. I haven't really been street skating in a while though.

Yeah, it can really make ya feel bad when it becomes a choice between skating today or being able to walk tomorrow...especially when I know guys that shred real hard at my age(40) or older.  I used to skate with Bill Danforth every now and then, he is several years older than me and can still annihilate a backyard pool like few others...

LOL. the last time I boarded, the boards were 2x4's scavenged from the homes being built around town, and metal strap on skates taken apart and nailed on. We then found the steepest hill we could and leterrip!

Hey I remember Bill Danforth and Tex. I think I may have actually had a Danforth pro model at some point.
