Carb. i.d....for CB500 or CB550 ?
« on: June 16, 2011, 03:15:37 PM »
Hi,
I have a set of stock carburetors for either a Honda CB500four or a CB550K or F
and I have the carb numbers which are # 46A A OH. Will someone please tell me
how these carb numbers can help me identify which Honda 500/550 that these
carbs fit ? !
                                                                    Thank you

That number doesn't sound familiar, but I'm no expert.
I got a lot of help from TT & deltarider some time back in sorting out what I had on my 550F1. Have a read of this. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=66014.msg725247#msg725247

It seems a 500 has 627B carbs & a 550F has 069A carbs. What goes on a K model I'm not sure.

This might help. http://www.motorcycleproject.com/motorcycle/text/specs.html
46A is listed as '77 550K (although it does have an X in front of it)

46a would be PD carbs found on the 77 CB550K in the states.  The 78's got the same carb style with a slightly different set up ,and were stamped 46c

Most of the Honda documentation showed X46 carbs.  I finally decided that was a place holder used by the tech writers.  And, it never got corrected/refined before somebody sent the manuscript to the printers.
Who knows, there could have been job reassignment issues, or simply stuff lost in translation.  Certainly, the 77 and 78 models were the last of the project line.  So, ongoing deliverables got lower priority than Honda's newer models.

Only the fly on the wall knows for sure, I suspect.  And it took the info to the grave.

Hey tootired & frostyboy !
I received your info on my carbs and it really helps; they also have the PD #
stamped next to the numbers that I listed in my post; NOW I finally know.
I have had this set of carbs in storage for 13 years kept from my decade in
the Motorcycle repair business,so I should have remembered which cycle I
removed them from,right ? !
I want to sell them...everything is there except
#4 carb bowl & float; they also come w/ the original carb boots. I know they
need a good cleaning & a gasket set...and they are good to go.

Thanks again for your Solid tech.
