I measured the stroke length by picking my mounting points and at left & right full lock took measurements from both points, the difference between the two measurements is the stroke length. I just got my dampers, mounting clamps and fork braces from Fast from the past today. I ordered ODM2000 and after loose fitting it it's the perfect length, I mounted it under the bottom triple on the right fork leg and onto the left side of the frame just above the cross brace on the front of the frame. Higher than but near plug #1, so I can adjust while riding if need be. Will report back how it all works out, so far the quality of the parts is great and dealing with Jim at FFTP was smooth as silk.

How would you mount this one?

I'm thinking of buying them...

Shocks and damper are off a 1978 CB750F.

That "damper" is just a factory shock, sans coil spring. If there is a way to use this as a steering damper I'd love to know because I have several old shocks laying around that could be repurposed

I picked up an Ohlins this weekend, only 65 mm stroke but should work, just a matter of mounting properly.. Oh,and it came with one of these on it..

Holy crap what a different bike it feels like, the front end is rock solid! Rode to work with the damper only and it was a big differance. Put the fork brace on at work and was blown away by how much more solid things feel, rock solid is the best way to decribe it. I cranked up the damper to the fourth notch on the highway and in town was on the lowest or first notch, I'm sold.

Yep, that's why anyone who says bike is fine without fender/fork brace doesn't have a clue what they are talking about

I needed remove my front fender/brace due to adding a 2nd rotor.  Brake lines and caliper arm shims prevented me from using it.  Rode it for a few days without and really noticed decreased steering response.  Unnerving to say the least.

@750K - Just be sure to re-torque your tarozzi allen bolts.  I found mine loose after a few rides.
Added some blue locktite to them. Rode 5 min around the hood then re-snugged them.

and please, post up a pic of your dampener setup. id like to see it. thx.

I think damper and fork brace are 2 different issues..altho. A bit related..
Thing i liked most about the Z1 type damper on my. Chopper 750.. Jump off thecbike let go of the bars.. They the gently sqwooooge over against the stop.. Probablymore noticeable with the rake.

Yep, 2 different issues, same out come, stability and sure footedness {doesn't seem to be a word but you get  it} . You also notice the slow swing of the front end on a stock bike with a damper too Frank.

If i end up running that USD fork, it will never corner hard again..
The stock fender brace, helps much less than most of the aftermarket ones.. The steering damper though adresses issues that factory chose to ignore..

The stock fender braces that were mounted with the rubber grommets were useless as a fork brace, IMHO. (I measured it.  ;))

754,

Yamaha front suspension?  Which model did that come from?

Should be fun.  Are you adapting a hub to keep the spoked wheels?
What brake system are you going to use with it?

I have a FZ6 front fork conversion planned for my CB550K0. Have all the parts, just need to get someone to modify the hub and fabricate the spacers for the front hub. Have FZ6 top triple tree so I can use the R6 forks and handlebars with the FZ6 forks.  The brakes will be the 4 pot FZ6 caliper on the right side and using a CB600F3 front rotor because it has a good amount of dish/offset.
It isn't an inverted fork but it should be a much nicer and definately will stop the bike when needed.

24mm I believe. The R6 forks were transplanted to the FZ6 in the same timeframe, my forks are off an 05 model. The top triple is off an '06. In 07 they went to a brace across the towers. The inverted forks in 07 as well and they went to the 4 pot caliper. The calipers bolt up to the earlier R6 forks or FZ6 forks.
The fork lowers are black and the adjusters are anodized blue and top triple is silver.  Calipers are black with plain anodized caps on the outside that are around 30mm diameter with a large hex.

Already loaded forks and bikes on the truck. Packing and cleaning apartment tonight and tomorrow.

I hate moving.

Would any of you have a pic of a damper mounted on a 75/76 750F?  The horn on the right and wiring box on the left look like they'd be in the way.  My lower triple does have a threaded boss.

Here you go, Ill double check the allen bolts next time I ride it. I was already thinking of doing that actually. The Odm2000 is a little longer in stroke than needed but was cheaper than the next shortest stroke length damper, I found mounting it to the right fork and the left side frame gave a better angle over all letting me easily reach the damper to change the setting, access valve tappets or plugs without it getting in the way.

Bringing back from the dead again. Anyone recently purchased a good damper solution. Browsing now but a lot of these links are no longer valid.

I'm running a 7 way adjustable damper from Mike's XS. I have a tab welded to the right side of the frame an I tapped the triple tree. It just barely clears the #4 exhaust tappet cover ;) if I did it again, I'd grab two fork clamps, one to go around the fork, and the other sized to go around the frame.

Here's my setup:

Fork braces anyone? This is for the early style fork lowers and is made by Tkat. I haven't found anything else in the way of braces for the early style fork lowers.

That's really sweet looking PJ. I looked high and low for a fork brace option for the 360 and found nothing. I really enjoy riding my 360 on the back country roads of Maine, something about that twin sound ;)

How have you mounted the steering damper in the lower tree ?

Just a regular bolt straight throug securing the damper to the tree ?

My cb750 K2 has a M6 hole in the lower tree but the steering damper has a M8 hole, any ideas ?
Im thinking of drilling up the M6 hole and tread... but Im not shure !
