You can get them Rims cheaper threw the "Power Barn" at http://www.power-barn.com/servlet/StoreFront they will not likely show them on the web sight but he is a dealer for Buchanan's and can actually sell them for less then you can buy them direct!

just email or call the guy (Mike) and tell him what your looking for and he'll hook you up.  Just say Godffery sent you.

First things first. Thanks for the rim suggestions.

Here is the brief update.

* Got the motor back in the frame
* Installed tapered headset bearings
* Installed forks/triples
* Pulled the front hub bearings and trimmed the gsxr front wheel spacer

Parts on the way:

* pingel petcock and plate adapter for the fuel tank
* pingel billet push/pull throttle assembly
* ttr400 rear disk hub

Next inline:

* make lower brackets  and upper hanging brackets for oil tank. If anyone knows the dimensions of these pieces I would love to know. Other wise I will just wing it.
* mount front brake calipers
* make fuel and oil lines
* make brackets for rear sets
* send hubs out once I have both in hand to have them built up with Sun rims.
* 1 million other things

Also ..... does anyone have a good starting point for jets with my setup? It would be nice to be in the ball park before I start tinkering.

Cheers.

Lame update.

Woodcraft bars and Pingel grips/throttle showed up today. Quickly threw them on the bike. The Pingel grips seem to be of excellent quality.

Cheers.

I have a question about matching wheel size to recommended tire size. I am wanting to use sun rims, but they don't make a 2.5 width rim. Should I go with 2.15 front and 2.75 rear? Is it better to be slightly under sized or slightly oversize on rim width? In the bicycle world a slightly wider rim width seems to provide a slightly nicer ride and handling from my experince.

Bridgestone says this for the BT45 tires:

front 100/90-19M/C
recommended wheel width:2.50 wheel width range: 1.85 - 2.75

rear 110/90-18M/C
recommended wheel width:2.50   wheel width range:2.15 - 3.00

Does anyone know the size of the threaded male fitting that extends directly down from the bottom of a Bartel CR oil tank? I purchased -10AN stuff for the rest of the bike but I'm not sure what the size of this is.

In my increasing obsession with cr750s, I now have a 4 into 4 exhaust (amongst other things) also coming from Kevin (ttr400) to replace the carpy 4 into 1 . I'm curious if they are the lord moonpie pipes since they have the seam and such. Anyways ...

Newly ordered parts are:
* cr 4 into 4 exhaust
* reproduction cr750 oil catch tank from a fella in the UK
* dyna 2000 ignition
* works cr750 seat to replace the wrench monkee unit
* boots/clapmps for the carbs
* rear disk break reservior and connecting rod
* wasn't sold on the pingel billet grip look with the bike so a new throttle and GP grips are on the way

Parts that arrived:
* motogadget m-unit
* accossato clutch lever
* rectifier/regulator unit from oregon motorcycle parts
* some of the oil fittings
* sprocket specialists 17 front 48 rear sprockets
* 520 DID x-ring chain
* dual outlet pingel petcock

more to come....

Yup. I've heard mixed reviews on chain strength ... but I figured a high strength modern 520 chain would have no problem with a sub 100 HP motor. Am I misguided?

Well... I've seen more then a few modern 530 chains fail on completely stock 750's resulting in this :

Yikes!

What do you recommend? No sense in busting cases when you dont have to.

If buying new sprockets/chain will save me some stress, sign me up.

520 Chain will be fine, but a 525 if you're a bit paranoid should help you sleep at night.

520 will be fine if you spend the money and get a good oner, they race bikes with more power than ours with 520's...

It seems like a bit of a risk for a road bike but if your out for minimum weight than you may want to install one of these just incase:
http://www.vinmoto.org/gallery/v/VinMoto-Garage/album03/Godfferys-Garage-123/album185/BC750+Case+Saver/

Also: I have found Non sealed Chan's to be stronger because there is much less space between the pin & side plates. The sealed need longer roller pins to allow room for the O-Ring / X-Ring, allowing for the possibility of bending or braking of the pin.

I just bought a motor that had one of those. Until yesterday I had never seen one. Seems to me you may have to run a smaller sprocket to clear the chain saver?

I'm out of town for a few weeks so not really any progress.

I got the carbs mounted and the motogadget gauge arrived. I am changing the theme a bit and ditched the CR750 oil tank. I sent my CR fuel tank down south to Ian at House On Fire Industries (formerly of twinline motorcycles). He is making me up a one off seat with upholstery along with a special oil tank to go along with it.

The front end is with the machinist getting offset rotor adapter plates to mount the gsxr rotors to the harley front hub. This way I can just buy new gsxr rotors as needed in the future and not have to worry about drilling holes or anything.

The rear disk hub is getting anodized this week and should be sent to me along with the CR exhaust sometime next week.

Once I get back in town I should be able to snap some more pictures.

Exhaust and rear hub arrived. All the parts look better than I could have imagined. Kudos to Kevin for the quality of his work.

I will be picking up the front end next Friday then it's wheel build time.

Sounds like the seat/oil tank should be done sometime next week as well.

As always ... more to come.

Got an update on the seat. Still some more to be done but it's getting there (finish work, upholstery, frame loop, oil tank). The oil tank will reside under the rear hump and the electronics will be house between the seat and frame rails.

The picture is of a test bike (not mine).

Got the front hub back from the machinist. Everything turned out great.  We used a Harley narrow glide hub with gsxr bearings and axle. This setup allows me to change rotors and bearings as normal maintenance with no fuss.

The changed bits:
   * new internal crush tube
   * spacers behind the bearings to push them as far outboard as possible
   * made rotor adapter plates
   * shaved off a bit from the outer faces to allow some room for the rotor adapter plates
   * alignment spacer

Seat shape changed a bit to make it less square and better match the rear slope of the gas tank. I think it's a huge improvement.
