Fork stantion retaining bolt
« on: July 14, 2011, 12:29:47 PM »
The bolt holding the stantion to the leg keeps turning around in the
Leg. How do I stop the stantion damper turning so I can get the bolt removed. Heard somewhere to use a broom handle to jam retainer. How does that work or is there a better method?

You can use a broom handle. You could slao try assembling the fork leg and removing that bolt before you remove the fork spring (if you have, in fact, removed the fork spring). The point is to put pressure on the bolt to keep it from turning. In extreme cases I compressed a fork leg completely with a ratcheting tie down and used an impact driver to spin out the bolt.

They can be a pain. Good luck.

All the old time wrenchs used the broomhandle. Just push it in enough to hold the tube from spinning. And use it again while tightening.

If you have an impact gun.....just give it short bursts....should come right out. If no gun or air......the other ways mentioned will have to do.
