OCR Alloy CB350 GP Cafe RacerTanks......are now available!!
« on: April 24, 2006, 08:41:16 PM »
Well.......its now offical. We have finally worked out all the details and have been hammering out some alloy CB350 GP gas tanks.

These tanks are 100% handmade(by OCR) aluminum construction with alloy monza caps.....and will mount directly to the stock CB/CL and SL350 frames. Here are a few picks of the tanks. Stop by the website and check out all the details.

Thanks man!!

Yeah......they are alot of work, but a blast to build. Something about taking a piece of flat 4'x8' sheet of aluminum and after a few hours of cutting, hammering and welding......you have this beautiful tank in front of you. It feels really good to see them come together......guess thats the joy of building stuff with your own 2 hands.

WHEN YOU GONNA MAKE AN ALLOY TANK FOR THE 750 ;D

CR750 tanks are coming soon.

Just need to get these CB350 rolling along and we will soon be making the alloy CR750 tanks(these should fit the CB500/CB550 fours also).

Also........I think we are gonna have a version of the CB350 tank adapted to fit the CB350F and CB400F inline fours.

......more to come....stay tuned!!! ;D

Hey there Greg,  Good to see that you're doing more of those tanks. Ya think the 350 tank might work on the CB/CL450K series?  I don't know that I could swing the finances to get one of those jewels though. They are pretty sharp item. Good Work Greg. Later on, Bill

Bill,

Dont think these CB350 tanks will fit the CB/CL450s. I tried it awhile ago and the front mounting area are setup alot different.

I need to set the tanks up with the front bottom sloping forward(like the CR750 tanks), insted of sloping backwards. Who knows....if I spend enough time in the garage.....I may find a solution.

I do wish I could offer the tanks at a lower price.........but, with what I have into them with materials and labor. Who knows......I may set something up for SOHC4 members to get them at a discount. Have to run some numbers and see what I could do?? Dont hold me to it....but i'll try.

Probably a silly question, but do the 400F tanks use the stock petcock and petcock location along with the stock mounting points?  And will the CR750 tanks use the stock mounting points and petcock and do away with the sump?

GC,

All my tanks mount to the stock frame mounting points, but you must use an aftermarket 1/4" npt petcock(stock location)........and hopefully once I can start working on the CR750 tanks....they will have the option of sump or no sump.

As promised....a few pics of the new CB350/4 or CB400/4 alloy tank:

Sorry guys......not making tanks at this time.

Unfortunately, I just dont have the time needed to put into these tanks. After working a regular day job, family and wanting to spend more time with my son(teenager....and will soon ditch dad for hanging with his buds and chasing the ladies)......just doesnt leave the time I feel is needed to produce a quality product. I wont rush or cut corners on my stuff just to get it out the door.

I plan on making tanks again, will update the website and post the information as soon as they are available.
Thanks,
Greg

Hello everyone.....been awhile since I have posted, but wanted to let everyone know that I have started to build aluminum tanks again (slowly....LOL). Funny how you stop doing something and it takes awhile to get back up to speed where you left off. Havent had a chance yet to update the OhioCafeRacers.com website, but I will be getting it back up and running to accept orders.

Currently, I have a CR750 aluminum tank and a Yamaha TZ250 tail section up for sale on Ebay. Thought i'd put these up on Ebay, since the website needs updated....but seems Ebay is dead anymore. Auction for the tank will end this evening. Here are a couple pics of the tank and tail section.

CR750 Tank

TZ Tail Section

I also have some templates for the Yamaha TZ tank and will probably build one of those soon also. In the mean time, I am currently building a CB350 aluminum tank and should have that done soon.

Glad to be back pounding out some tanks again!! If there is something your interested in.....feel free to drop an PM on here or an email thru the website.

Also......make sure you visit the YouTube channel I have setup for Ohio Cafe Racers and subscribe. I will be updating it frequently with videos of tank building and other stuff. YouTube Link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSn2HA_GaSS5Q1YmzwmETcg

....and a recent video I did while making the TZ tail section.

Appears there is little to no interest in these parts any more. Guess the interest in vintage bikes or vintage style race parts isnt what it was a few years ago.

I'd say it's as strong as ever. AHRMA is doing quite well with record registrations for racing this year at multiple events. I do however think racing is going from building GP racers of yesteryear to modifying bikes from the street and going racing. It's also hard to justify spending that kind of money on an aluminum tank that will be destroyed in a get off. Easier to go with glass for racing unless well heeled.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

It's a big purchase, takes a bit of saving and thinking about it to order one. Plus you need the right bike, not like you can stick it on a stocker.  Just be patient..

You might try posting the tanks on the "for sale" page in the classified ad section, as well as on the Hi-po and Racing board's "for sale" thread. (This might not have existed on your last visit?)

I wish there were some more photos.  The CR tank looked good.  It IS a significant purchase requiring a specific type of customer.  There are plenty of people building CR replicas and AHRMA racing is still very popular.  Keep at it!
