73 cb750 brattish kinda trackerish sorta.
« on: July 20, 2011, 10:03:46 PM »
Hello this is my first post here. Love all the info that is available.
Well this all started with a guitar. I was selling my guitar last week and got a call from a guy that had stuff to
trade. One of the things he had was a cb750. I went and took a look at it. I had to have it. So a
trade was made. the PO had told me it was a 78 with a 75 engine. It turned out to be a 73 frame with a 76 750f engine.
Also the seat that was on there was not the correct seat.
Anyway I had been wanting to do a bratstyle bike. I was gonna do it with my 78 kawasaki kz750 but the damn thing vibrates too much.
So my brother will be buying that one when I am done with this.
I am about 3 days into the build. So far the things that have been done are:
seat pan made
foam sorta fit
engine removed
frame detabbed and ground down.
As I got her.

First things first, build a platform so I dont have to be bent over or laying on the ground.

Pics coming.

This is what the bike looks like on my finished platform. I paid about 20 bucks for materials to build the platform

That was the end of day 2. the next day after class I decided I needed to get some foam for the seat.
So I googled and found Foam Brothers was the closest to me. Headed on over there and they were really cool. they took
me through there buildings to look at different blocks of foam until I found the right density I was looking for. They had really huge blocks of foam. like 8' tall by 5' feet wide then they cut them down to whatever specs the customers need. I got my 2 pieces took some pics of them cutting them out on a big ass band saw.

the frame was pretty filthy and my son was asleep so I couldnt crank up my pressure washer. So off the
car wash but not before a couple of photo ops.

Back to the house and let the grinding begin. We detabbed all the things that were not going to be needed. I really want to relocate the battery and the electrical so i might end up removing the tabs in the triangle. Seeing that the seat would only accomodate one rider we removed the rear passenger footpegs, no rearsets for this bike. And that pretty much brings us to today. I need to paint the engine and the frame, so we can install it tomorrow.

Well today went alot slower than I thought it would. I painted the engine flat black. Got a wheel painted in a gold metallic and used the same color for the valve cover. Also got the forks painted black. I didnt get to finish grinding the frame or painting it so that will have to be tomorrow. While I have the valve cover off, i  will do a valve adjustment.

Alright so yesterday I finished taking off the front end. forks and such. and made a box that will hold the electronics under the seat.
I have never done any metal work and this is certainly not the best thing. but I will get better.
also i dont have a welder so rivets are the way to go for me.

 looks good, nice work..
 Yout pipe is aftermarket..
If your rear end is 77/78 it will have a bit wider/longer swingarm.. that will not have bolt on end pieces. if the 77/78 wheel or sprocket carrier is used with a 75 engine, chain may be running crooked.. try to check your alighment.. fairly easy to change..
