Will 78 550 carbs run on a 76?
« on: June 10, 2006, 07:21:05 PM »
...I have a 76 550F and have an opportunity to buy a set of 78 550 carbs.  The carbs look pretty different, sort of like the change from 76 to 77 on the 750 carbs.  Will the 78 carbs work on a 76 model?

Yes, they will work.  You will need the manifolds and the rubber couplers to match the carb outlet diameter differences and the carb spacing.  The air plenum and rubber couplers also have a diameter and spacing difference.   You'll need a choke cable, too.

The 78 carbs are factory jetted for the 77-78 4 into 4 pipes.  Probably need some jetting , needle adjust etc.
77-78 cb550K carbs have press in slow jets.
