After trying to take the alternator cover off without success, I've searched the forums and found conflicting info.  I removed the bolts to the alternator cover and it's loose, but won't slide away from the crankcase.  When removing the alternator cover, does the transmission cover have to come off first to release the wires to the stator?  The bike is a '74 750K4.

Thanks.

Yes. When removing the trans cover, press on the shifter shaft with your thumb to hold it in place, so it doesn't get pulled out of position by the seal.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!
