78 honda twinstar won't start
« on: June 21, 2011, 11:13:41 AM »
I am in posession of a twinstar 185 that is a friends bike. I have been goofing around trying to get it started but with no luck.

I know for a fact that the battery is toast. Thecracks down the side of it from sitting in the sun are a dead give away. I checked the point and it isn't pitted. I cleaned it up with some alcohol and jumped the ignition (no key). I can get the lights on the dash to light up with each kick but I can't get it fied. I know it has fresh fuel. I have even tried carb cleaner directly into the carbs. Still nothing.

Any ideas? I know I'm missing something simple.

PS I checked the fuse (Its awesome that there is only one!) and it looked ok but I went ahaed and jumped it just to be sure. The wiring looks good as well.

Without a good strong battery, you're not goin' anywhere.
It might be a 6-volter, too.....

What Bill said...

And yes, the '78 and '79 ARE 6-volts.

Thanks guys. I had a feeling but I thought kicking it over might be enough. I'll look into the battery and yes, it is a 6volt system.
