Did you ever resolve the issue?

I did, it was the chain. It was stretched, you can check by raising the rear wheel and turning it while checking the tension of the chain. One spot the chain would be super tight, another rotation of the wheel or so, the chain would be very loose.

I had the same noise while riding and it seemed to be engine related since it was like a wub wub wub sound coming from the exhaust. Ended up being about 3 sticky links in my chain. Thanks for getting back to me.
