CB500 TOP END ONTO A CB550
« on: June 18, 2011, 06:50:07 AM »
hi all

i need to rebuild the top end of my CB550 Cafe Racer Sprint bike, i have 2 spare CB500 motors

as i compete in the Classic 500cc class i would like to make the bike 500cc, is it straight forwad to put the CB500 top end onto the CB550 bottom end & if so whats a good cam to go for to get a bit more power

thanks Andy

im sure the 500 barrel will go onto the 550 case, the sleeve lowers might look sloppy in the openings but the locating dowells should square it all up,the 550 top end wont go onto the 500 case unless those openings are machined slightly bigger i think, the 650 cam is a popular choice, unless you want to talk to a cam grinder and ask him,the performance section on here is the place for finding tricks for souping up your motor.

The 650 cam is a great way to go, I've heard nothing but good feedback about that mod.  Beautiful bike!
