Fork Leg Refinishing
« on: April 27, 2006, 04:57:46 PM »
Now that I have a leaking seal and since I'll be taking the front end of my 75 750F apart, why not get some things refinished. Whats the best way to get factory finish on the fork legs? Are they painted? Blast 'em and clear powder coat 'em? Any suggestions on refinishing the painted area of the disc? What tha hell !!!

About 15 years ago when I lived in Alaska, the surface of the fork legs on the 750 became badly corroded from all the crap they put on the roads.  I found that sanding the fork legs with 400 grit wet-or-dry sanded wet gave a finish very close to factory.  I sprayed Krylon clear over it and it still looks reasonably good after all this time.  I'll re-do it one of these days, but I'd say it worked out pretty well.

For the brake disc, I masked off the outer disc area and sprayed the inner "spokes" with satin silver wheel paint (more durable than regular spray paint).  For a stock finish you could use a black spray paint with a protective clear coat.
