CB750 dual rotor without speedo?
« on: April 25, 2006, 06:31:08 PM »
Working on the mock-up of my '74 CB750 Cafe racer.  I plan on NOT using a Speedo.  So I guess my question is looking at this diagram how should I proceed.  I'm assuming it would be symmetrical to the side with the rotor on it now.  Use an extra part 10, 20, 2 on the side that the speedo gearbox is on now (where the 2nd disc will be).

Thanks!

I suppose#10 is the bearing retainer, 20 is the seal and #2 is the spacer. On the opposite side you won't need these parts. Have a spacer machined the same width as the speedo drive. The bearing on that side will be visible though, so you may want to keep the chrome cover bolted in place or something similar. You may also want to have some little elf ride on your shoulder to tell you when you've speeding!

an elf,, i like that!  I guess my 2 questions are...

1... what not have the same bearing seal on the other side.

2 why go through the troble of getting a spacer machined if I can get the parts off ebay for 10 bucks  (hub with axle and spacers)...

Thanks!

I have a defunct dual-disc setup, and am not running a speedo.
Just had a spacer made up to fill the space where the original speedo drive gear was.

I'm pretty sure it's a 110/90/18.

NickBee,

The left side of the hub has a retainer and seal with a short spacer. The bearing on the right side is flush with the outside of the hub and you'll need to machine a spacer the width of the speedo drive to replace it. It will be a custom job, dig-it?

I dig!  But it will have to be the width of a 550 spedo gearbox right (once the disc is on)... Sound right?

To everyone who is not running a speedo beacuse it is a pain in the ass to set up with a dual disc....  My dad's company can get GPS driven speedometers, no cables, just satellites....  just a thought, it might save u a ticket

Most states require a speedo on a motorcycle, you may not pass inspection without it.

so it it is a race bike?

I don't know about where you live but you get caught without an inspection sticker in NY the cops have the right to impound the bike (the rarely ever do, most times it is just a slew of tickets).

Your illegal ride aside, for others considering running without a speedo, it is not advisable. Please check with your state as to what equipment you are required to run and how strict your state is about enforcing it.

The spacer will need to be the width of the part you remove from your wheel. (Which is the same as the 500 part anyway)
