I recently bought a K7 project bike and it came with a loose airbox. Having overhauled the carbies I've found that they are from the F model (PD41B, not A); I also believe that they the inlets are larger than on previous models (42 vs 39mm?).
The airbox is a strange beast; it appears to be right but the connector tubes are loose, not firm in their holes. I wonder if the previous owner has the wrong tubes ie for the earlier model carbies. Should the tubes fit snugly in the airbox openings? I have ordered new tubes so hope they will solve this problem.
I also have found that the choke linkage and throttle linkage on the carbie set get in the way of the airbox; the airbox has no recess on it but I have seen some on ebay that have a recess where the choke linkage goes. Once again it seems that the airbox is the wrong one. Does the K7 airbox have a recess for the choke and throttle linkages on it? Its a really tight fit; no chance of getting it in there without the recess.
So - my plan is to fit the new, larger connecting tubes, and to cut out a small section in the mounting face of the airbox to make room for the linkages, then fashion a recess plate to cover the hole. I plan to seal and rivet the plate on the inside of the airbox. Any comments on the merits or otherwise of this approach?
