We had the sirens with verbal warnings, but it seems the worst of it went around us here North of Dallas.
I grew up in North Texas and am no stranger to severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings, but I think this disaster in Joplin, MO has really driven home the fact that this could happen to any of us at any time in this part of the country. It makes it much more apparent that the threat is real, because Joplin is Anytown, USA. Many of us have family there, or know somebody who lives there, or have spent time there at some point in their lives. It's a familiar town whether you've been there or not.
I'm not any more afraid of a possible tornado now than I was before, because if it's going to happen it's going to happen, but I'll be much more obedient of the warnings we get when we do get them.
