Does anyone know the size of the spanner tool that I need to buy to remove the clutch lock nut.  Ive used a hammer and screw driver before, but figure Id just buy the tool. 20 mm, 22 mm, or 24 mm?

Id go look at the nut, but don't want to take things apart until I'm ready to work on everything.

Thanks guys

There's a cheap on on ebay:

you can get a 3/8" drive tool made for the job (Honda clutch nuts)  and then get to use an air impact wrench for removing it (and installing).  This is far superior, IMO, to either hammer/screwdriver  or T-handle version, both of which I have done previously.

The clutch hub "Nut" is a special nut and it's round, not hex, so you can't just use a normal socket to remove it. Buy the tool, and do it properly. Cheers, Terry.  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

while you're buying stuff,  get a fresh nut  and a couple of the sheet metal tabs that go behind it  (although some schools of thought don't use them at all).

After thinking about it, I did work on a bike about a year ago where the nut was on so tight nothing but an air gun would get it off.  Hammer/screwdriver or T handle would not do it, no matter what.  Air wrench makes the job trivial.

Just use some round bar/wire like coathanger stuff. Put it in the grooves on the round nut, then put a socket over it. I have done this many times and it worked every time. Made a tool eventually useing an old plug socket tube.

Yes yes. Ive gotten if off before with a screw driver and hammer. This time I wanna buy the right tool, but dont know what size?

Sheet metal tabs? The one washer that locks into the nut?

Anyone know how much to tighten it down too?

That particular tool on EBay uses a 1/2" drive socket wrench mate. According to the factory workshop manual, the torque measurement for re-tightening it is 32.5 - 36.2 foot pounds. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Does that seem like a lot?

Kind of like how the factory wants you to torque down the oil drain bolt to 25 lbs-ft in the shop manual.

Yeah, well the book was written by the same guys who built your bike mate, so what are you gonna do? To be honest though I've never torqued a clutch nut in my life, I just tighten it up until I can't tighten it no more........... ;D

Very Happy

Z1 Enterprises also has one:

Im pretty sure the 750 Clutch uses the 24 mm size.
