'77 750F smokin out of middle right exhaust port
« on: April 26, 2006, 08:42:33 AM »
Hi all,

Can't believe I haven't come accross this site before. I'm the original owner of a '77 750F and have had very few problems with it over the years.

Took it out of winter storage about a month ago and noticed after it was fully warmed and sitting at a light that there was smoke (burning oil) comming out of the middle right exhaust port. Seemed hardly noticable at speeds but I havent been on it since as I was afraid of more damage.

Any ideas of what is causing it and what I  may need to do to fix it?

TIA for any replies

Provided that your exhaust does not have a hole or a leak at the head then I would assume you have an oil leakage somewhere that is running down and burning where you describe it vs your engine actually consuming/burning oil in the cylinder and smoke exiting at the exhaust/head area. Not bad for 30 years. Determine where its coming from and decide if you wish to proceed by pulling the engine and partially breaking it down to correct a gasket or seal issue. Wish it was easier!! You might have access to tighten a few bolts to correct a leaky gasket such as valve cover. Perhaps you will get lucky and its the tach drive leaking which would be fantastic since its an easy fix. If all else fails remember to keep a check on your oil level and put stain remover on your jeans each time you throw them in the wash.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)
