i am now the proud owner of a 1972 cb750 for $300!!
« on: June 25, 2011, 06:58:41 PM »
well i have this app on my phone that alerts me everytime any of my search criterias are hit

honda cb
honda cb750
honda cb750f
honda cb550
honda cb550f

anyways i got an alert on my phone and boom!!! 1972 cb750 for $300

called the dude and i rented a home depot truck and picked it up. i called him 11 min after he posted it. got it for 300 and the after that he said he got like 7 phone calls about it when i was driving there to get it (about 45 min)

got a 145 speeding ticket in the home depot truck too that was pretty embarrassing..... wasn't speeding for the bike i was just being stupid 79 in a 60 :(

now theres a couple of catches with this bike.

first there is no title, the bikes owner didnt have one its just been sitting around and it was lost in time..... i can get one of these pretty easy i think but if not ill get a 750 frame with a title i think i can get one around $150

also a spark plug broke off and the owner couldnt get it out but i can  ;D

the bike seems to have an SW air ride suspension in the back with the air things even on the front forks

there was some kind of oil cooler on it too but the oil cooler radiator is missing but the bracket thing that fits behind the oil filter is still there so i could add on or just take that part off

the side covers are great but there is a little crack but u cant see it.

no keys to the bike but no problem another ignition and key is like $10

engine turns over

carbs need to be rebuilt

tires are bad

other than that the bike looks good

cables are all loose, controls are all fine, frame is good, rims are good so ya

muffler needs to be changed too

also he threw in a cb350/450 tank... idk kind of random but ok

so ya that was my project today  ;D

so now i have a 1975 cb550 that im about to finish then the 1972 cb750 whahahahaa (evil laugh)

Wow, good catch!  It took me about ten weeks to get a new title for my '75 CB550K in Wisconsin, but it was worth the effort.  Good luck on that -- I hope the DMV people in MN are as helpful as they were for me.  Keep us posted on your progress.

Nice find xsmooth ;) Looks like a good deal 8) That gray paint looks real nice. What's the mileage? How's inside of tank? If that's a Honda OEM ignition you might find a key using the # on the face (keeping same key as the fork & seat locks)

The rear rim looks different to me.  And what is that gauge looking thing near the chain guard?  That paint job reminds me of my project 750.  Except my PO painted the (chrome) fork ears and hubs black too :(  Luckily the paint is just chipping off the hubs and I have a decent set of ears...

Looks like a Jardine header with can changed. If not that maybe a S&S..

Is the rear rim an aluminum one ?

ya about the rim i thought the same thing! it looks smaller than other cb750 rear rims.....

the PO put some S&W air shocks in the back and that gauge shows the air pressure in them

Is the rear rim an aluminum one ?

so i take it the headers are after market? i thought they just janked those headers and pipe off a cb750F

my air box says cb750F on it

but the frame and engine done have the F

how do i tell if the rear rim is aluminum? and ya i noticed that the rear rim was smaller than the usuall rear 750 rims too and it has a massive tire on it!

 Aluminum is loghter
Read the tire.. I cant decide if it is a 17" from a 750A, or a ?Borrani? shouldered 16 inch.
 Pipe looks Aftermarket to me.

Want to add a quick thought on the title situation.

My brother owns a paint and body shop in Phoenix, which is located next to a large tow company.  Tow companies get abandoned vehicles all the time.  They apply for an 'abandoned title' through the state, so they can re-sell the car @ auction.  Not sure how the process exactly works.

We purchased 2 dirt bikes dirt cheap, that both had missing titles.   We went next door to the tow yard, to talk with the owner, and he agreed to file for the abandoned title.  30 days later, title in hand.  Cost was about $50 for both.

So, if you know a tow company, this might work.  (wouldn't suggest doing this with a company you don't know really well, because the abandoned title 1st comes in the Tow Companies name!  They then sign it over to you.  Kinda need to have some trust or relationship there, so you don't lose your bike.)

Anyways, just a thought.
Come on!  We're burning daylight!

Definitely not a stock pipe off of a 750F.

If the rim is aluminum, a magnet won't stick.

Great find! Good luck with your project.
