76 CB750 Starter R&R

Replacing the starter on my F1.  Does the cam chain tensioner need to be removed to get the starter out? Engine is in frame and carbs mounted.

OK.. so it's pretty obvious the tensioner needs to be removed but the starter is really resisting.  Tried the bolt in the top of he starter to grab on to but this thing still isn't coming out.  Another 1/16" would be nice.  I've got it all the way back as far as it can go but still wont lift up and out.

I just put a new starter in my 77f, it is a pain in the arse to get out.  Make sure the wire is disconnected so it is easy to push out with the starter and wont hang you up.  Do yo have the alternator cover off and the starter gear removed?  I had to wiggle mine back and forth and up, and it finally came out.

Don't think you'll get it out without removing the gear tweakin refers to. You won't be able to angle the starter unless you do.

Thanks all.  Yes, I had the starter gear out which is what led me to replace the starter.  The starter gear was was stripped and the smaller gear on the starter was marginal so I replaced both.  When I went to clean the alternator stator and cover, this nut dropped out.  Not good.  It looks like a connecting rod cap nut but I would have expected it to be a finer thread.  Any clues?  I was surprised as I drove the bike home and everything seems to be in above average condition on the motor.
