3 row chain?

 We dug an engine out of a barn, this is what I found.

Chain is the wrong type for that gear...

 I tore it down to save the internals, The case is out in the scrap pile. I thought the pitch was incorrect. 15 tooth front sprocket counting the two missing ones.

 I think it started out 203xxxxxx. I wrote it on the box of parts.

 I would have felt worse if it had been an early engine. This one's easy to replace and I didn't have the matching frame anyway. Or do I?  hmmm.

I have always been curious as to why that big hole is for.  Now I know, chain exit hole....
