HID HEAD-ACHE.......filler rod
« on: June 28, 2011, 10:49:16 PM »
so after nosing around on this site for a while i come across a fella talking about his HID headlight and LED tail light and blinkers and such, now he has the requisite power to run an electronic ignition and high performance coils.  i say to myself, "i dont know about the fancy ignition, but being able to see better at night cant be a bad thing."  so, i go ahead and order a HID kit and a hollow h4 headlamp.  they arrived the other day and i quickly put them together hoping they would work together and they did.  the HID bulb fit perfectly into the new H4, even clamped down tightly with the chincy  metal clamp.  HOWEVER, i either under estimatated the size of the HID wiring or over estimated the size of my headlight bucket or under estimated the siz of the bunch of wires that were already in there because i have no idea where i'm going to put all of this wiring.  AND, there are no mounting tabs on my new shallow H4, the only solution i can see to that is to make replica tabs out of sheet metal and TIG weld them to the new H4.  seriously?  anybody running a HID on a cb750 please feel free to give some advice, helpful advice.

i dont understand the question....

there is no way your going to fit all the HID stuff in the headlight housing

ur going to have to mount the ballast outside the housing. the easiest place i can think of is off your horn bracket. the kit should have come with some kind of bracket if not you might have to fabricate one.

other than that you should be fine......

you did get a 35w hid kit right? not a car hid kit

That looks like the kit I got. I stuffed the ballast and high voltage box behind the bucket and zip tied them in to the other wiring to hold them. The relay box is mounted to the frame and the ground wire there is connected to the horn bracket. The only issue I had was a cheapo cobber connector that goes to the + terminal. I was getting intermittent power. I took off the connector and twisted the wires and just stuck it under the terminal. Did this yesterday and now headlight is fine but I will have to make a suitable fix tonight.

Nope, not enough room. It would be behind the bucket around the neck.

i wonder if anyone has filled the bucket with only HID wiring and moved the rest of the wiring under the tank.  how much of a pain would that be?

I'm really curious to see how this turns out!

probably easier than trying to stuff it all in the headlight to be honest. Plus you get the added bonus of cleaning up that rats nest. Just make sure that you put dielectric grease in the connections as they'll be more exposed to weather now.
