Topic: CB650 petcock bungs don't match

I recently bought a 1981 CB650 tank to replace my 1982 CB650 STD tank, but it didn't come with a petcock.  When I tried to do a switcheroo, I found that the bung on the '81 was much smaller than the petcock nut from the '82.  Now I have three petcocks (one from an '82 STD and two from SCs) and a tank that none of them will fit!

Now, I had thought that the tanks were identical between '81 and '82.  Am I wrong on this?  Or did the guy lie and it's actually from a 1980 bike?  Hopefully I can find out and buy a replacement off of Ebay!

The 81/82 are the same except for the styling of the nitehawk.  Do you have the cv carbs?  Thats when they changed the bung.  Been my experience lately that people dont know #$%* about these older bikes.   Talked to a guy that was on a 80 kz and he swore it was a 90. Finally gust showed him the vin tag.   Another couple where on a 79 400 honda.  Was lookin at it for the wheels.  He also swore it was a 90.  Had to also warn him of the badly weathered rear they where riding on.

Thanks Terry, the tank must be from an '80... it has the same shape as the '82 (so it's not a '79) but it has a smaller petcock.

Guess I'll start lookin for a 1980 petcock!

Oh, and I saw a 350 four today in Nashville... it gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling to see another local inline 4 SOHC!

The fuel line is smaller with the 79/80 tank petcock.  They can be made to work.
