PAMCO or Dyna....
« on: July 04, 2011, 07:16:58 AM »
I think I'm going to install an electronic ignition, but just wanted to get the thoughts of forum members.  I've found that the PAMCO is about $10 or so less than the Dyna ignition.  Also, I've emailed PAMCO Pete a couple questions and he was very nice and responsive, which makes me lean toward the PAMCO.  However, it sounds like Dyna has a long track record.

I've search the archives and didn't come up with a direct comparison between the two.  Which is easier to install?  Does anyone have an opinion of which works better, especially with stock coils?

Thanks.

You're not going to get a consensus answer on this. A lot of people like their dyna, a lot like their Pamco, and a lot like points or points-modified with Hondaman's transistor box. Some people will disparage the other options, some will make extreme arguments that involve being stranded or killing your battery, but it's worth it to remember: All of these will make your motorcycle run and if the rest of the bike is in tune, they'll all make it run beautifully. All are very reliable. It's your bike -- choose for yourself.

Looks good, but it's too expensive.

I can't say anything about the Dyna.  I've never used one, or even seen one.  But the Pamco dropped right in on my CB500.  The instructions are very clear and there was no issues at all with the installation.  My bike fired right up first try.  I use my stock ignition coils and everything works perfect.
