Did I buy a Chopper Frame? (CB 750)
« on: April 22, 2006, 02:35:28 PM »
Hey Guys…

I got a ’76 CB750 Frame off ebay last year.  Starting the moch-up on my café racer project and I notice things were not going together well on the swing arm (spacing of the hub / axel / spacers).  Figured I had a bent swing arm so I got a replacement on ebay.  When my new swing arm came in it was about 4 inches shorter.  And that would explain the brake stay that came with the frame having a 4 inch extension welded in the middle.  But now my question is with the rake angle.  I’m wondering if that was messed with also.  Here are some pics, tell me what you think, or what measurements I can make to be sure.

Thanks!

I'm no expert, but judging from the extra welds and the space between your front wheel and frame I would say yes, it's been "raked".

Measuring straight from the frame downtube (at the left engine mount) to the front tire I have a 8" space, 750F. Hopefully someone else will chime in with a more "data specific" answer :) :)
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

Yep, there's been some cutting and some shutting done on that frame, it'd be good for a drag bike, (with the extended swingarm, that's probably what it came off anyway) but not a good "Cafe" candidate, unless you don't want to go around corners in a hurry, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Great!!!

Thanks guys for the quick response.  I guess I'm back to searching for a frame.  It's a same since this one had a nice clean title.

Let me know if anyone on here wants this one. I'll be putting it up on ebay if not...

Thanks!

I dont see any 'extra' material welded in (the pressings match), just cut head off 'good' frame and welded onto frame with a different headstock (and different numbers), presto, legal frame and good bike/engine. The extra space on front wheel/tyre is due to the 6"over fork tubes (ok maybe 4"over)
Maybe not a chopper, maybe a 'ringer'?

I'm in northern, NJ... might be far for a swap.  Unless we just ship the frames to each other...

The forks are OEM (I think) and were bought seperate from the frame.

30" from the top of the top fork bolt wo the center of the axle.  Is this OEM or an extended tube?  Thanks!

Hi Tell, I can see your point on the drag race chassi idea, I thought that myself at first.

The give away to it perhaps being a chop is the horn mounting bracker is still in place.

Good pick-up Sammy, and I know extended swingarms were popular with the chopper-isti, still, if someone wanted a drag bike with a horn............ ;D

Fit a matching bracket (correct spelling this time  ;D) on the other side, then fit the oil cooler on them like we did with the CR. ;)
