Fork Seal Position
« on: June 29, 2011, 08:34:23 AM »
Ok theres alot of great info on how to replace them, but i have a simple question.

Which side of the seal is up? There is a thick ring part and a softer part. Im assuming to make it easier/harder to slide in or out. which side goes up? or does it not matter.

I noticed while banging them in that i had one in one direction and the other in another direction.

I can't remember if they have a spring around the seal lip on both sides (some seals are like that). The spring side goes to the oil and the flat side goes outside. If there is a spring on both sides....my only suggestion is to look at it very carefully and determine which side has the sealing lip. That should be the oil side.

One side should be more "solid" looking while the other side should look sorta "hollowed" out. But the solid side is the top.
