'71 SB500 upper fork clamp: spacer?
« on: June 29, 2011, 02:39:57 PM »
p/n 53235-300-000 discontinued spacer. #9 in the pic below. This is the one that goes into the gap between halves of the upper fork clamp on the tripple tree. I've read that if it's missing and you torque it down hard enough (too hard?) it can break the clamps. Anyone know what size it's supposed to be? Can I just use a washer or something? The bolt that goes through it is 8mm.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

There was a thread a year or so ago (I think) that gave the correct thickness of the spacer and a source for the same thickness washer.  You had to grind the flat side to clear the fork tube.  Don't remember the subject line but since you ask you can do the searches.  triple tree spacers or some such?

Ok, did a few searches and found a thread from MCRider,  but it is for a 750K0.  Check the parts fiches and see if the part number is the same, it may apply.
