Using an oil additive with zinc, good or bad idea?

I was skimming a Summit catalog last night and I came across this additive from Trick Flow.

It says that it has some extra anti wear additives that I think might benefit our bikes.  Not only valve train wise but also down in the transmission too.  I thinking that it might be a nice addition to oil changes.

Anyone agree or disagree?  No this is not about oil I'm fine with what I use. ;D

Just thought I'd get some other opinions.

Most engine oils contain zinc in their mixture, although the level of zinc has been decreased since catalytic converters became common on cars.  The zinc was used to help "repair" minor wear in steel parts, and is very effective at that job.  However, it also causes damage to catalytic converters, which is why the concentration of zinc is less now than in 1970.  It is widely believed that the reduced amount of zinc in engine oil has caused premature wear of engine components in pre-catalytic car engines that were designed with the expectation that high levels of zinc would be in the available engine oil.

Most diesel oils have higher levels of zinc due to the higher loads found in diesel valve trains.  I use Mobil Delvac in both my Jetta diesel and my motorcycle.  I do not have any empirical evidence of the benefits of zinc in our motorcycle engines, but I know without a doubt that low zinc oils will allow specific high-load valve train components in the VW diesel engines to wear out VERY quickly.  If you run a low zinc oil in a post 1990 VW diesel engine, then your valve train will wear out within 200,000 miles.  If you run a high zinc oil in a post 1990 VW diesel engine, then you will likely never have to replace your valve train.

There seems to be a threshold at which increasing the amount of zinc in the oil has no further benefit.  I am not sure what that threshold is, but the mobil Delvac I use seems to be good enough for my diesel, so I am using it as is for my motorcycle (it comes with HondaMan's blessing too).  If you are using a low zinc oil, then you might see a benefit to adding the zinc additive... or you could just use mobile Delvac (usually on sale for $9/gallon at my local O'Reilly).

From some reading a bit ago, 1200ppm was the max zinc content available even during the 70s high points. It seems that there is little benefit of going higher than that and that more zinc became toxic because the concentration was too high in exhaust.
I doubt in our bikes, anything over 1200 will make any difference.

What are it's effects on a wet clutch? I would be most worried about that.

If the Mobil Delvac comes with Hondaman's blessing then the only thing I would be worried about is what's for lunch.

I have run Rotella T in my bike in the past for the added zinc and saw no problems with the clutch plates for the 10,000 miles or so I used it.

Just switched from Valvoline for wet clutches to Rotella T and like the Rotella better... My bike had been sitting for 5+ years and had some seals leaking...I ordered new seals and they are sitting on my counter at home.  Decided to do an oil change and polish the clutch cover and drive chain cover 2 weeks ago and put in some NEW left over Rotella T (had it sitting around the shop, we use it on our diesel Limo Bus).  The oil leaks have stopped, about 99%.  In just a couple days.  Now this probably means it swelled the seals but the clutch operates great, no pulling or drag.  So far I'm very happy.

Isn't that Rotella 40 weight? Maybe I'm thinking of something else.

Both rotella are. The conventional is 15-40 and the synth is 5-40.
