Oil leaking from exhaust...Help
« on: April 24, 2006, 03:37:21 PM »
Hi everyone

Its been some time since I found this problem, so I cant remember all the details.

For some reason I took off the #4 exhaust pipe.  Something was wrong with that cylinder i cant remember what.

I noticed when i try to start the bike oil spurts out.

I really dont know what the problem is.  can some one help.

I can only imagine that its a bent valve or a tappit ormething of that nature.

But I dont do a lot of engie work so im not sure.

Thanks

rodney

First of all (and I know this may sound like a dumb question), but are you absolutely, 100% positive that it's oil and not just condensation turned black by the carbon deposits inside the exhaust?

Let's hope its just condensation! If so, you might want to think about replacing the copper crush gasket. then.. no leak

Ok,

Checked it out again.  Its not oil.  And I found out why i took off the exhaust in the first place.  It is making a gulping sound.  This time looking for the condensation, I shined a flash light in the hole while I pushed the starter button.  It seems fuel is getting past the valve.  So it was probobally fuel and not oil or condensation.  But I probobally do need a valve job and the gulping sound?? I dont know what that is.

any ideas?

Check your oil level mate, if you've got a stuck "needle and seat" (fuel valve) in your carb, fuel can pour into your cylinder via an open inlet valve, seep past your piston rings and fill up your crankcase!

Pull your dipstick and check the level, if it looks higher than it should be, and smells of gas, you better dump your oil and filter (including your oil tank) or the fuel will dilute the oil in your engine and transmission, and destroy all therein. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

When do you hear this "gulping" sound.  When the pipe is off?  If so, that normal...thats just the sound of the piston moving up/down...you don't normally hear it with the pipes on.  If you here it with the pipes on, then you probably have an exhaust leak somewhere...

No I heard the bulping sound with the exhaust on.  So I took it off to see what the sound was comming from.
