That big alloy lump is what caught my eye when I first saw a 450. I've only ever seen one in the flesh. Life in Saskatchewan.

I LMAO every time I read a spelling correction blast.

Really enjoying your build because that bike was as bad as any project that I have read about here,  Can't believe that the frame still holds things off the ground.  I doubt that I would have even seriously considered trying, even if it was free.  I follow with my prayers.

I also agree with keeping that 900 in stock colors.  My opinion, but it was the best color scheme ever; my dream bike.  If I had one to restore I could never sell it when it was done.

Lucky has been doing it all over the forum since joining, i found it funny when he used duel out of context, my reply was a bit tongue in cheek...... I think, being an international forum the English language has different interpretations everywhere, and considering that the US has "altered" the Queens English i found it ironic that Lucky was correcting everyone....Nothing untoward intended.... ;D ;)

I picked up the frame, motor brackets, toolbox, and side stand today.  Thanks to James at CTI for helping me out.

Its Back!!

I procrastinated for a long time, most of two years in fact.

Finally decided I needed something to kick start my enthusiasm, and reduce my anxiety about paying far more than I wanted to for parts; Mamba needed a lot of parts to be done well, so she is now going to be a Cafe custom.

Already have the CBR250R front end on, working on extending the swingarm 30mm to accommodate the CBR250R rear wheel & brake system.

Probably a good idea as early 450 parts are hard to find and more than expensive,  plus Honda 450s are a great cafe foundation...Larry

Lossa Engineering recently did a really cool 450, with ammo cans as panniers.  You might find some ideas from it.

Got the front end on, spent the last two snow days polishing motor parts.

Looks like a little top end work is needed, number 1 cylinder will not hold fluid. Drove in the snow yesterday to meet a guy in a machine shop who rumor had it possessed a reworked head from a customer that walked away years ago.  It was from a mid 80's SOHC 450, C'est la Vie.

All the lower covers need to be replaced due to damage.  I have found output shaft cover, still looking at the other two.

** found alternator cover last night!

The swing arm has been cut down and temperately installed in the frame to check how it all fits together.

I had to cut 30mm from the swing arm pivot OAL as you can see marked on the last photo. 

It all fits and it looks like i can adapt the monoshock into the existing frame structure.  The front shock pivot will be secured to the existing center stand with an adapter and two links. the Upper shock mount sits in an area braced by the battery box, the rear triangle and a pair of diagonal braces that tie the frame down tube to the rear triangle.  I think it is going to work out very well.

The 250RR arm adds about 110mm to the wheelbase.  the photo sure makes this clear.
