Plugs fouling?
« on: July 04, 2011, 09:09:47 AM »
Hello everbody,

First off new but not new member. i was a member when this forum stated around 1995. That's if i got the right SOHC forum.

Model SOHC CB750 K6 1976 Engine with proper carbs.

Here is my problem.
A friend of my has been having problem with fouling plugs after only a few miles of riding.
The bike ran great last year right up to a few weeks ago.
The carbs were looked at by a mechanic. He says it's not the carbs, it's electrical or timing. As far as I know it's not the timming. I've been doing this timing thing on and off since 1975. It's spot on wit htiming light.
So that leaves electrical.
I've changed the points out for a good electronic ignition system.
Que.
If the battery does not charge on the bike is it possible that as the battery loses charge it would cause the plugs to foul due to weak spark from weak battery?
When new plugs and or cleaned plugs are installed it fires right up. and runs ok for a few minutes again, till the plugs foul up.
But the battery has lost most of it's charge.
I mean when it runs with new and or cleaned plugs the bike sounds and runs like new.

Hope this makes sense.

Kind regards,
Bob W.

Definitely make sure the battery has a hot charge before going further...it definitely can have an effect on spark.  A guy sold me a bike once that would turn over, but would barely start and wouldn't idle properly.  I bought it for $3500, charged the battery, rode it for a year, and sold it for $6000.
