CL350 Piston Rings
« on: April 24, 2006, 09:41:13 AM »
I just got a new set of standard honda pistion rings from David Silver spares.  The rings are a lot different then the originals.  So I am not sure which ring goes where.  Each set came with a three piece oil ring.  So my problem is that I do not know which of the remaining rings goes in the top groove and which goes in the middle.  One ring has a tiny notch cut out on the top and bottom of the outside edge (I think this is the top ring).  The other ring has what looks to be a square face.  So does anyone know how to identify the top and middle rings?

When I was checking the ring gaps of the ring set I also noticed that one ring, the one with the notches has a bit larger gap then specs.  The other ring has a correct gap.  So my next question is what should the gap be for these rings?  And is a slightly larger gap for the top ring a bad thing?

Also the rings are very snug in the ring grooves.  The groove clearance is tigter then stock but the rings move pretty freely in the groves.  What should the ring gap be with this type of ring?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Chrome faced ring on top, black ring center. If there is any markings near the gap, a dot, or letter, etc, that faces up.
