Chernobyl tour

The Chernobyl anniversary reminded me of this site; not the sort of place that I'd think of touring by bike but absolutely fascinating..

I remember reading that story with great interest back in '04 when it first started catching some buzz.  Later, I read that the story was a fake - she might have visited the towns around Chernobyl and taken the photos, but it was unlikely that she would have done so on a motorcycle.  Wikipedia discusses this in more detail:

Fake or not, it is a good story.

....I was fascinated by the original 'Kid Of Speed' postings a few years ago, an amazing ride with the pictures to go along with. However there was a lot a hoax allegations after she got her website up, mostly from Russians who are familiar with the area, and her. Neat story though if it were true...    http://www.smh.com.au/news/russia/a-day-in-the-halflife-of-chernobyl/2005/08/24/1124562907092.html

I didn't know that background, cheers. I guess we'll never know if it's all true. Oh, I was listening to a radio programme about the place yesterday, apparently the concrete sarcophagus that they built around the reactor is deteriorating badly so they are building another, described as the size of an Egyptian pyramid, alongside it and are going to slide it into place on rails. That's some engineering.
